Dubai is set to create another infrastructure wonder: construction of the tallest underground metro station in the world, at about 74m. The station will be called Dubai Metro Blue Line- the flagship station and will exemplify the audacious infrastructure vision of the city.
The Visionary Scale, The 74-Meter Wonder
The showstopper for this mega-project will be a seashell station in Dubai Creek Harbour-designed by the same architects as the iconic Burj Khalifa. It will soar to a record vertical height of 70m making it the tallest underground metro station earth.
Blue Line-Expanding the Metro City of Dubai
- Project Scope: 30-year line comprising 14 new stations, evenly divided between 15.5-km underground and 14.5-km elevated tracks.
- Timetable: From construction in April 2025, ground-breaking on June 9, 2025, operation on September 9, 2029, will be the city’s 20th-proclamation anniversary on the Metro.
- The coverage: The line will connect vital areas such as Mirdif, International City, Silicon Oasis, Academic City, and Dubai Creek Harbour.
The Smart Choice: Sustainability & Mobility
This ambitious endeavor promotes sustainability and connectivity:
- The first transportation project in Dubai following LEED Platinum green-build standards.
- Designed capacity: 56,000 passengers an hour, expected to reach 200,000 by 2030 and perhaps 320,000 by 2040.
- It contains five underground stations (the tallest of which), three interchange hubs, and a 1.3 km viaduct across Dubai Creek.
Economic & Social Raising
The Blue Line is not just about engineering, and it is also seen as an economic engine:
- Total investment of about Dh18-20.5 billion (~US$5 billion). Estimated AED 56 billion savings/benefit by 2040 due to reduced travel times, emissions, and accidents.
- Property values around the stations are expected to benefit with an increase of 25% and traffic congestion reduction of about 20%.
The Global Cutting Edge: Dubai’s Next Record
After records of the longest driverless metro, Dubai is now reaching new levels underground with its tallest underground station. A daring assertion of how the emirate pushes the limits on urban design and smart infrastructure.
With the ground already broken and the full commissioner for East Dubai, the Dubai Metro Blue Line is transforming not just how people move-the very breath of the city. The looming underground station at Dubai Creek Harbour is a statement, more than an emblem of architecture, and Dubai’s aspiration rises from the ground up.
