Thus, Dubai awarded the Dubai Sustainable Tourism (DST) Stamp to 153 hotels in what has now become its second cycle, which is 118% higher than the 70 hotels awarded in the first edition.
Overview of the Initiative
Launched in July 2023, the DST Stamp is an accolade given to hotels that perform superbly in adopting sustainable practices in line with Dubai’s ambitious environmental objectives and vision for a green future. Hotels are assessed against a holistic set of 19 Sustainability Requirements covering energy efficiency, water conservation, waste management, as well as engaging staff.
Category of Recognition and Mentioned Recipients
The awards are divided into a three-tier award scheme:
Gold Tier: 18 hotels
Silver Tier: 64 hotels
Bronze Award: 71 hotels
Prominent gold-tiers recipients include Atlantis The Palm, Atlantis The Royal, Jumeirah Al Qasr, and Le Royal Méridien Beach Resort & Spa.
Broad Alignment with the Sustainability Agenda
Thus, the DST Stamp initiative contributes to the broader clean energy strategy and, in particular, the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs) 2030. It also plays a role in that ambit from where the Dubai Economic Agenda (D33) seeks to put Dubai firmly on track as one of the best global business and leisure cities.
Encouraging Continual Improvement
The stamps will from now on be valid for a period of one year. This demonstrates that the sustainability initiatives will continually keep adapting to changing challenges and that they are encouraged as ongoing activities. Those hotels that were not awarded the DST Stamp this year could not be placed in the list for consideration in future cycles.
This underscores Dubai’s commitment to sustainable tourism and the minimization of carbon footprints from its hospitality sector, setting the pace for countries aspiring to emulate best global practices in green hospitality.
